Position Paper: EGMF views on the future Outdoor Noise Regulation

The garden and outdoor power equipment industry is heavily impacted by the Outdoor Noise Directive (2000/14/EC): Today, we represent more than a quarter of all the equipment falling under the OND scope. Some equipment is subject to labelling requirements only, such as brush cutters, chain-saws, grass trimmers, hedge trimmers and shredders. Other types are also bound by noise emission limits, such as lawnmowers and lawn-edge trimmers.

EGMF fully support a revision of the current Directive, including substantial amendments to the current legal act to address the non-adaptation to technical progress and administrative burdens.

EGMF and its members would like to contribute shaping the future Regulation in order to achieve legislation which would ensure smooth functioning of the internal market and support the competitiveness of our industry, while protecting health and well-being of European citizens.

In this context, EGMF provides its views in the present paper on the main aspects of the future legislation, including the scope, conformity assessment procedures, update of noise limits, measurement methods and database.
